Hakka association celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival in Washington


The Hakka Association in Washington, DC (DC Hakka) celebrated the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival in the city of Gaithersburg on Sept. 22.


Attended by roughly 150 people, the event offered blue crabs, grilled corns, chicken thighs, Chinese tea eggs, and moon cakes, as well as performances presented by DC Hakka members. 

Chairman Chu Mei-chin (朱美琴) of DC Hakka thanked everyone for their participation, noting that it is a joy to eat moon cakes and crabs with members of the association, and she hoped everyone could enjoy celebrating the holiday in the U.S.

During the celebration, Director Tseng Chun-ming (曾俊明) announced that a reunion for Hakka people overseas will be held in Washington, DC next year. He also invited everyone to join the Hakka meeting held at the DC-based Twin Oaks next year on behalf of Representative Stanley Kao (高碩泰) of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S.

Director Chen Shih-chih (陳世池) of the Culture Center of Taipei Economic & Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. wished everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival and said that the Taiwan government cares about overseas Taiwanese, so it has sent representatives to celebrate Chinese holidays with them every year.
